Me and my friend were not the only fly fishers who got the idea to celebrate the Iceland´s national day at 17th of June at the lake Thingvallavatn. It was warm, not windy and cloudy. Excellent conditions for fly fishing.

This was not our first day at the lake so we know were to find the arctic char but this time we decided to explore new fishing spots. We walked the south the east bank until the cliffs stopped us from going further. The place we stopped at is either called Gjaendar (Gap´s end) or Davidsgja (Davids gap). I don´t know how far south we were so I´m not sure if I´ve got the names right. The cliffs were we started to fish made it difficult to cast the fly but we had to try because the fish was there for sure. We saw the arctic chars swim in front of us in the crystal clear water. It was a beautiful sight. Now we only had to offer them something they were interested in. Well we failed to do that so we moved further north were the conditions were more in favor of fly casting.

There we stayed for quite a long time and six chars took the flies. Two of them got away. The char was picky. She seemed to like the flies Pheasant tail, Peacock and Frisco best. Since the fishing was not so good we decided move towards a place called Arnarfell (Eagels cliff). There we did catch two more chars.
