I've been offline for a little while. Yes, I've done some fishing, but I've also been busy putting together a book. It has just been released. I've published it myself.
I've heard again and again about books of fly fishing "stories" (which is what this is) (see excerpt on my wall), are a "tough sell", and I shouldn't expect much. In fact, I was met with quite a bit of discouragement when I first started writing these stories (2011) and trying to get them published in magazines. I was told I'd be better off trying out for the Mariners. Well, perhaps, but I tried anyway, and I've had many of these stories appear in fishing magazines, such as Salmon & Steelhead Journal, American Angler, Flyfishing & Tying Journal, and Salmon Trout Steelheader.
I guess I've chosen to believe that instead of fly fishing books being doomed to sell only a handful of copies, that perhaps the true potential of such books is yet to be realized. After all, there are 2 to 3 million fly fishermen in the U.S. alone, and millions more worldwide. I'd love to prove the nay-sayers wrong on this one.
As mentioned, I shared an excerpt from the book on my wall; a short, funny story called Don't Be So Negative. Several years back, I shared another story (Born Again), which can also be found on my wall, and also appears in the book along with a dozen others. The artwork was done by world-renowned angling artist Rosi Oldenburg.
The book is available from major online retailers worldwide, including Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, powells.com, bookdepository.com, foyles.co.uk, saxo.com, and others. I also have my own online storefront where the book can be ordered at: https://aerbook.com/maker/productcard-3719725-3897.html
