Type of Water: Freshwater
Species: Brown trout
I went fishing to the famous Limay River outlet (mouth) and stayed there for several hours. It was hard! When there were only 15 minutes of remaining light, I had a taka just to say "Here I am", but still I went back home without any fish out of the water.
Today is the first day of 2015 and even with a little alcohol in blood after the celebrations I'm back for another chance. I started fishing around 3pm standing on the famous Baruzzi rock, but after a while the wind was to heavy so I began to wade downstream. While I was trying to fix a knot in my amnesia (running line), my fly was a few meters downstream and a little brown of half a kilo took it. I continued to wade to the bridge very slowly and nothing happened. So I thought: I'll take some "mates" in the car and wait until sunset to make the second round.
15 minutes after that I said to myself, "I'm going into the water again!" I couldn't resist while looking from the bridge. I saw something that was moving in front of a large stone right in the middle of the river just upstream of the bridge. It was a nice brown and she seemed active!
So I checked that everything in my rod was in order and went into the the river. I went 25 meters upstream and made a cast with my shooting line at 45 degrees, the fly drifted in front of the rock and nothing happened!
I repeated my cast, a bit longer. It was one of those when you think, "This has to pay"... The fly went drifting in front of the stone and nothing happened, but when when I first stripped on the last second of the swing.... "Blummm!!!"...
I saw the fish jumping right by the bridge column! The 20-pound tippet gave me the chance to hold the fish, then she came towards my legs and started running again, followed by a few more jumps.
Finally, I took it out of the water... A couple of pictures and back into the river.
After that, I started again... I cast with a strong wind, hit my rod with the fly, and in the next shot it broke... That's the Limay... It gives and it takes away!!! Welcome Patagonia wind!
Conditions: It was a sunny day and windy.
Line: Shooting Taper, sinking-fast 4 Scientific anglers, with an Amnesia 20 lbs running line, 20 lbs tippet. A fly with violet and pink marabou on a salmon hook.
