List of materials
Hook Size: 10 or 12 wet fly.Detached Body:  Blue Holographic Tinsel or Crystal Flash.Wings: Organza ribbon fibres.Thorax: Dark ostrich herl.Legs: Large grizzly hen hackle
Steps

Step 1

Take either a good length of fine blue holographic tinsel or 5 -7 strands of Crystal flash. Wind the holographic tinsel around your open finders to create several loops about 5 inches 12.5 cm wide.If you are using Crystal Flash just double them over.Insert your dubbing spinner and twist them up. Keeping a tight hold on the other end.

Fold the twisted length in half and let it twist up around itself. It may help to fold it over a needle and encourage it to furl.

Step 3

Start your thread and work down to a point opposite the point of the hook. Tie in the furled body and trim out the excess.

Step 4

The wing is made from strands stripped from organza ribbon. Tease out a good bunch. Don't worry about getting them even, you can trim them to length on the fly.

Step 5

Tie in the wing at the same point as the body. Try to get it to roll around the top 1/3 to the hook shank.

Step 6

Tie in 2 or three dark coloured ostrich herls, advance the thread about 1/3 of the way towards the eye and tie off but do not trim then off.

Step 7

Tie in a large grizzly hen hackle. Trim out the excess hackle.

Step 8

Wind the hackle a couple of turns and tie down. Don't worry about getting it too neat. This is a swimming fly its legs will be all over the place. Once you have removed the excess, advance the thread to the head.

Step 9

Wind the ostrich to the head, tie off, trim out, and whip finish. Trim out the hackle above and below the thorax.

Step 10

To trim the wing place your index finger vertically behind the wing and trap the wing against it with your thumb nail. With your scissors follow the curve of your thumb nail as you trim the wing.
